ASA East Region Water Polo Junior Boys Inter-County Championship 2012
The 2012 Boys Championship (for players born in 1996 or later) was held at the Region’s newest water polo venue, Inspire Luton Sports Village on October 28th against teams from Essex and Suffolk.
The team had attended a number of selection sessions, the boys selected were:

Suffolk & Herts opened the tournament, with Suffolk opened the scoring. Herts countered with three from Nash and eased ahead 4-2 by the interval. The second half saw spirited attacking play from both teams, including a Herts hat-trick from Botje and four from Suffolk’s Clark, and Herts were glad to finish 8-6 up against their rivals.
In the third game, Herts faced Essex; they faced a six goal deficit at the interval with a full time 13-2 scoreline leaving Herts with a mountain to climb.
The second round of matches started with Herts v Suffolk in a game that almost mirrored their first encounter. Herts were 4-0 up after the first period, and finished 8-5 winners.
Herts still had a mathematical chance of lifting the trophy in their final game against Essex. The scores were level-pegging throughout a dynamic first half which saw Essex nudge ahead 6-4 at the interval. Both teams stepped up a gear, and the exclusions and goals came thick and fast, but Essex never looked threatened and won 10-7 to retain the trophy, and Herts finished second.
